Solar ATAP Malaysia, officially known as the Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme, starts on 1 January 2026 as Malaysia’s new rooftop solar programme following the end of NEM on 30 June 2025. It enables domestic and non-domestic users to install roof solar panels, generate roof solar power for self-consumption, and export surplus energy to the grid under the applicable Solar ATAP mechanism.
Transform your rooftop into a clean energy source with Ray Go Solar. We provide end-to-end Solar ATAP solutions for homes, businesses, factories, warehouses, and commercial buildings — helping you assess, design, apply, install, and maintain a safe, compliant, and high-performing rooftop solar system.
Whether you are exploring roof solar panels, roof solar power, or comparing modern rooftop systems with solar power roof tiles, our team helps you choose the right solar solution for your property.
Solar ATAP Malaysia is a consumer-based rooftop solar programme that allows eligible electricity users in Peninsular Malaysia to generate electricity from solar photovoltaic systems installed on rooftops. The programme supports self-consumption, meaning the electricity generated by your roof solar panels is used first within your own premises before electricity is imported from the grid.
If your solar PV system produces more electricity than your property uses, the surplus energy may be exported to the TNB grid under the applicable Solar ATAP mechanism. For domestic users, exported energy is offset based on the applicable energy charge mechanism. For non-domestic users, surplus energy is generally associated with System Marginal Price, or SMP, as shown in SEDA’s Solar ATAP communication.
The programme is implemented by SEDA Malaysia and regulated under the Energy Commission’s Solar ATAP guidelines, which cover technical, procedural, and compliance requirements for safe and systematic rooftop solar adoption.
Solar ATAP Malaysia gives property owners a practical way to reduce electricity costs, improve energy efficiency, and support clean energy adoption through rooftop solar. By installing roof solar panels, your building can generate roof solar power during the day and use that electricity directly for household, commercial, or industrial operations.
With the right solar system design, your roof becomes more than just unused space — it becomes a long-term renewable energy asset. Solar ATAP is especially suitable for properties with consistent daytime electricity usage, suitable roof area, and a clear goal to reduce dependence on grid electricity.
Solar ATAP is suitable for:
Install roof solar panels to generate clean electricity for daily household usage and reduce monthly electricity bills.
Use roof solar power to lower operating costs and support business sustainability goals.
Maximise large rooftop spaces on factories and warehouses for higher-capacity solar PV systems.
Turn suitable covered areas into productive solar energy spaces where technically feasible.
Based on the Solar ATAP energy flow, solar electricity is generated, consumed on-site first, and then exported to the grid when there is surplus energy.
Your roof solar panels convert sunlight into direct current electricity during the day. This solar energy is produced from the solar PV system installed on your rooftop.
The inverter converts direct current electricity from the solar panels into alternating current electricity that can be used by your home, commercial building, machinery, appliances, or industrial operations.
The PV meter records the total amount of solar electricity generated by your rooftop solar PV system. This helps measure system generation and supports Solar ATAP monitoring requirements.
Under Solar ATAP, the solar energy generated is used first within your building or premises through your main distribution board. This reduces the amount of electricity you need to import from the TNB grid.
When your solar system generates more electricity than your property uses, the surplus energy may be exported to the TNB grid through the Solar ATAP meter. The exported energy is then offset according to the applicable mechanism for domestic or non-domestic users.
At night, during cloudy periods, or when your energy usage is higher than solar generation, electricity will continue to be supplied by TNB to support uninterrupted usage.
Homeowners can use Solar ATAP to install roof solar panels and generate clean electricity for daily household usage. This helps reduce monthly electricity bills while improving energy independence.
Ideal for:
Businesses can use roof solar power to reduce operating costs and support ESG or sustainability goals. Solar ATAP is suitable for commercial premises with consistent daytime electricity usage.
Ideal for:
Factories, warehouses, and industrial buildings can benefit from larger rooftop solar systems designed around operational load profiles and Maximum Demand requirements.
Ideal for:
Installing roof solar panels allows your building to generate renewable electricity from available rooftop space. Compared with unused roof surfaces, a well-designed solar PV system can turn your roof into a long-term energy-saving asset.
Ray Go Solar designs rooftop solar systems based on:
This ensures your rooftop solar system is not only installed correctly, but also designed to match your actual energy consumption and long-term savings goals.
Many property owners search for both roof solar panels and solar power roof tiles when exploring rooftop solar options.
For most residential, commercial, and industrial properties in Malaysia, conventional solar PV panels remain the practical and scalable choice because they are widely used, efficient, and suitable for larger rooftop installations.
Solar power roof tiles, also known as solar roof tiles or building-integrated solar products, are designed to blend into the roof structure. However, availability, suitability, installation cost, and maintenance requirements may vary depending on the building design.
Ray Go Solar helps you assess the right rooftop solar solution based on your roof condition, energy goals, budget, and Solar ATAP requirements.
Generate your own solar electricity and reduce the amount of power imported from the grid.
Turn unused roof areas into a productive renewable energy asset.
Solar ATAP supports Malaysia’s wider move towards renewable energy and lower-carbon electricity generation.
For businesses, rooftop solar helps support ESG goals, sustainability reporting, and long-term energy cost management.
Using solar power on-site reduces reliance on grid electricity during daytime operating hours.
Solar ATAP is designed for both residential and business users, making it suitable for a wide range of property types.
Homeowners with suitable roof space and medium-to-high electricity usage can benefit from solar energy generated directly from their rooftop.
Benefits:
Businesses with daytime operations can use rooftop solar to offset electricity usage during working hours.
Benefits:
Factories and industrial buildings often have large roof areas and high daytime electricity demand, making them suitable for Solar ATAP system design.

Solar ATAP, or Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme, is Malaysia’s rooftop solar programme that enables consumers to generate electricity from solar PV systems installed on their rooftops for self-consumption.
Solar ATAP Malaysia starts on 1 January 2026 following the end of the Net Energy Metering programme on 30 June 2025.
Solar ATAP is designed for domestic and non-domestic users, including homeowners, businesses, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities, subject to programme requirements and technical approval.
Yes. Solar ATAP supports rooftop solar PV installation, allowing property owners to install roof solar panels and generate electricity for their own consumption.
When your solar PV system generates more electricity than your premises consume, the excess energy may be exported to the TNB grid and offset according to the applicable Solar ATAP mechanism.
Domestic users generally refer to residential electricity users, while non-domestic users include commercial and industrial consumers. The offset mechanism may differ between domestic and non-domestic users.
Yes. Solar ATAP can be suitable for commercial and industrial properties with large roof areas and high daytime electricity consumption.
Solar power roof tiles are different from conventional solar panels. Solar roof tiles are integrated into the roof design, while standard roof solar panels are mounted on the rooftop. For most Malaysian properties, conventional solar PV panels are currently the more common and scalable option.
